Fasting is one of the weapons God has given you to use. to crucify your flesh. Fasting is to deny yourself of food and that, in turn, kills and crucifies your flesh. In 1 John 2:16 the Bible says, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” We were born into sin when our mothers conceived us and we will always fight these three things in life. Fasting helps keeps those things under our feet. Fasting keeps our flesh in check (the lust of the flesh). Fasting keeps our focus on God (the lust of the eye). And fasting keeps pride out of our lives so that He can exalt us (the pride of life).
Fasting is a weapon. Not for things or people, but a weapon God has given us to keep our own bodies in submission to God’s plan and will for our lives. As we are more than halfway through our 20:20 fast, be encouraged. Stay the course. Stay strong and if you happen to have had a moment where you weren’t, use today to get back on track. Remember, there’s no shame in the struggle. Let’s challenge ourselves during this season! During these twenty days of fasting, don’t forget to spend time today reading the Bible, worshipping God in your private time, serving in our church and your community. And set aside that dollar for every member of your family so when we break the fast together on Sunday, January 26th each member of your family will be able to sow in that offering. We will close our 20:20 fast with a worship night for family and friends that Sunday evening. We are anticipating what God is going to do in us and through us during these twenty days.
