“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came Wise Men from the east to Jerusalem. Saying, ‘Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have SEEN His star in the east, and are come to worship Him.’” Matthew 2:1
I was walking through the mall a few days ago, watching all of the holiday shoppers as they stalked their prey – the perfect gift! I stopped in a store and began to look around. I must have had a look of bewilderment, because it wasn’t long before an employee approached me and asked, “Son, whatcha lookin’ for?” I wasn’t looking for anything in particular; I was just looking. So, I mumbled something to that end and kept shopping, but the question stayed with me. “What are you looking for?” If you don’t know what you are looking for, how will you know when you find it?
There are so many “lookers” this time of year; but “what are we looking for?” Will we know when we find it? The Wise Men had been diligently looking for the promised Messiah for some time, but their LOOKING was about to turn into FINDING.
Verse 11 of Matthew chapter 2 records these words, “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and they FELL DOWN, and WORSHIPPED Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
They had FOUND what they were looking for and they KNEW it! They responded with worship! Have you found what you are looking for; or are you kind of like me that day in the store, and you are “just looking”?
