Day Eight

As we are in this season, don’t take it for granted that God is drawing closer to you as you are drawing closer to Him.  Fasting isn’t a good idea, it’s a God concept.  And God’s concepts prove to be the best ever.  It is God led and God-initiated.  God begins stirring something in you when you fast.  He loves when you fast because it gives Him the opportunity to move in your life how He truly desires.  God’s original intention was for us to walk hand and hand with Him.  He created us to have face to face conversations with Him and because of sin, that was damaged.  But fasting repositions us to be able to walk with God the way He originally intended again.

The Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 1:27-29, “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.”  It doesn’t necessarily make natural sense for a person to deny themselves of their favorite foods or drinks. But if by doing that means we get to walk hand and hand and have conversations with our Heavenly Father, it’s worth it!

Let’s challenge ourselves during this season!  During these twenty days of fasting, don’t forget to spend time today reading the Bible, worshipping God in your private time, serving in our church and your community.  And set aside that dollar for every member of your family so when we break the fast together on Sunday, January 26th each member of your family will be able to sow in that offering.  We will close our 20:20 fast with a worship night for family and friends that Sunday evening.  We are anticipating what God is going to do in us and through us during these twenty days.
