Day Sixteen

Isaiah 58:6-7 teaches us a few things about fasting.  First, it tells us that God has chosen a certain type of fast for His people.  There’s something that can be accomplished when we go into a fast with His purpose in mind.  He then lists out all the things He will do once we enter into His type of fast.  The Bible says in this passage in Isaiah, He will

1.  LOOSE THE BONDS OF WICKEDNESS

He will free you from your wrongdoing and guilt.

2.  UNDO THE HEAVY BURDENS

He will erase the weight of sin that’s been holding you down.

3.  LET THE OPPRESSED GO FREE

“Oppressed” is described as people who have endured crushing. This type of fast puts broken pieces back together again!

4.  BREAK EVERY YOKE

“Yokes” is defined as an agency of oppression, subjections, or servitude that puts you into slavery!  Yokes are also known as an AGGRESSIVE ADDICTION!

5.  PROVIDE BREAD FOR THE HUNGRY

He will feed those who are hungry both naturally and spiritually.

6.  BRING THE POOR AND OUTCAST INTO YOUR HOME

The poor, the needy, the wretched, the weak, the afflicted, the lowly. This fast will bring those people into a house of SECURITY AND SAFETY!

7.  COVER THE NAKED

He will protect those who have been exposed to ungodliness.

8.  HIDE YOU FROM YOUR OWN FLESH

Fasting is the restraint to your own flesh!  Fasting puts your flesh in submission to your spirit!

Let’s challenge ourselves during this season!  During these twenty days of fasting, don’t forget to spend time today reading the Bible, worshipping God in your private time, serving in our church and your community.  And set aside that dollar for every member of your family so when we break the fast together on Sunday, January 26th each member of your family will be able to sow in that offering.  We will close our 20:20 fast with a worship night for family and friends that Sunday evening.  We are anticipating what God is going to do in us and through us during these twenty days.
